the COAT
The Spring-Summer 2023 collection was conceived amidst Ukraine's defence of its independence and the struggle for its legacy. COAT's unique colour codes are infused into this collection, reflected in silhouettes, prints, and embroidery traditionally associated with Ukrainian customs.
SS23 encapsulates the authenticity and distinctiveness of Ukrainian culture. Its backdrop is Pyrohiv - a sprawling open-air National Museum of Folk Architecture and Life, which embodies the historical and ethnographic regions of Ukraine with about 300 monuments and 100,000 varied exhibits.
"This collection is a bold declaration intended to draw the global fashion world's attention to Ukrainian culture. It's a significant mission to represent my country adequately," says Creative Director Katya Silchenko.
What will linger in memory? The sight of an exquisite embroidered bustier top and midi-skirt with ethnic embellishments at the neck. The succession of feminine dresses, two-piece suits, bombers, and a solitary trench coat with lunar sleeves. And then there are the additions, like maxi-dresses in a melograno clay colour paired with knitted accessories, and the union of simpler pieces like slim tank mini-dresses, shirts with shorts, tops, and elegant trousers, all accessorised with bucket hats.
The collection's primary colours include sky blue, pale yellow, fiery orange, and delicate pink. Prints inspired by traditional crafts and wildflowers found across Ukraine lend an air of casual wearability, while simultaneously elevating each piece to refined elegance.
